Lake Forest, Ill. – Lake Forest College has been recognized with a Crystal Award for its work in conjunction with Chicago Scholars, an organization that helps underprivileged students with college admission and career growth.

The College has been connected with Chicago Scholars for five years, hosting an annual essay-writing seminar, providing college counseling, and supporting students with a Chicago Public Schools full-tuition scholarship.

“This award simply serves as recognition of the support and continued involvement we have with the Chicago Scholars,” said Director of Admissions Diane Kanney. “We hope to continue supporting this organization that helps send some of the best and brightest students in the Chicago area to college.”

Kanney expects that this year through its Chicago Public School Scholars Program, the College will offer about 5 full-tuition scholarships to Chicago Scholars students. The College has enrolled 30 students through this scholarship program since its inception two years ago.

The award was presented during the Chicago Scholars Third Annual Chicago Scholars Onsite Forum which was held October 27, 2009, at the UIC Forum.

The Chicago Scholars Foundation provides Chicago’s young leaders with the support they need to achieve their dreams: mentorship, college admissions support, and access to summer internships and career programming. They reach out to students and nurture their talent through an innovative five-year program lasting from the senior year of high school through the senior year of college.

Lake Forest College is a national liberal arts institution located 30 miles north of downtown Chicago. The College has 1,400 students representing 47 states and 72 countries.
