April 2009
Maritza has attended John F. Kennedy High School and will be attending Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI starting in the fall 2009.

Maritza Lopez is a Chicago Scholar in the Class of 2013 and a recent graduate of John F. Kennedy High School in Chicago. While attending school she was a member of the Chicago Economics Club and worked part time at Target. Learning to balance the challenges of both school and work has kept the future Marquette University student grounded. She has learned to earn her own money and help her family out while maintaining good grades.
Maritza devloped a passion for business during her high school career. In spring 2008, she participated in an after school program at Deloittle & Touche where she was exposed to valuable information and professionals from the financial/accounting world. She also had an accounting internship at the Cook County Treasurer’s Office in summer 2008, where she learned about finance, data analysis, and interacted with professionals. Maritza plans to continue her business education when she arrives in Milwaukee in the fall, particularly accounting, but is open to trying other fields in business as well.
She is grateful to Scholarship Chicago for helping her with the college application process and providing her with a mentor. Her favorite part of being a Chicago Scholar was 2nd Annual Onsite Admissions Forum where she interviewed with college representatives and learned what colleges were looking for in a student. She’s a hard worker and is ready for what lies ahead. The prospect of meeting new people and having new experiences while in college excites Maritza as she expects they will help her grow as a person. Upon graduating from college, Maritza hopes to work in a professional environment where she can further develop her communication and skills to one day becoming a Latina business leader.
