The Chicago Scholars Board Welcomes Interim President, Steve Wohl
March 14, 2013
Congratulations to Karen Foley who has accepted a new role as CEO of The Hope Institute for Children and Families. Over the last nine years, Karen and her team have transformed Chicago Scholars into a leader in the college-to-career success arena . From a modest beginning of 20 students, Chicago Scholars now serves over 1,000 high-potential scholars each year. Karen led the charge to create a comprehensive 5- year mentoring program -from the senior year of high school through college graduation - which produces college graduation rates of 84% in four years and 95% in five years, one of the highest rates in the nation for first generation students. We thank Karen for her leadership and wish her and her family every success.
The Board is pleased to announce that Board member, Steve Wohl, will serve as the Interim President. Steve's involvement with Chicago Scholars dates back to 1996. He serves as the Chairman of the Mentoring Committee, and has been a mentor. Steve is a retired partner from the law firm Chapman and Cutler. With his enthusiasm for our scholars and programs along with his extensive experience as an active board member, Steve is the perfect person to step into this role, and we are fortunate that he agreed to take on this position.
In other news, the Board of Directors has formed a Search & Solutions Committee to recruit the next leader of Chicago Scholars. During the transition, Chicago Scholars will continue to focus on our Scholars and the programs that contribute to their success.
Sincerely,
Suzanne Shier
Chairperson, Chicago Scholars
