Dr. Bernadette Sanchez, DePaul University, conducts focus groups with college scholars to learn which mentoring programs are effective and why.

Fact: without a support system, fewer than half of the students who enroll in college will graduate

Let's work together to change that for the good of our youth and the good of our city. Chicago needs highly skilled professionals if it is to remain a competitive business center, and academic credentials are more important than ever to both employers and employees. Every corner of the corporate sector is faced with the same dilemma: where to find the diverse and skilled labor base that the new global economy requires?

The answer is right here, but there is much work to be done. Recent years have seen substantial improvement in the performance of Chicago schools, thanks in large part to civic and business leaders and organizations like Chicago Scholars -- people and programs committed to promoting the academic and professional success of local students. To move forward, to not only sustain our city but improve it, we need to coordinate our efforts. And we need YOU
