Mission Complete: 2010 Garfield Park Conservatory Volunteering a Success

Posted: 7/8/2010

Chicago Scholars had a great turnout of volunteers at the Garfield Park Conservatory on July 7, 2010. It's so nice to see that scholars care about their environment and are willing to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty. In the 90-degree weather scholars planted 6 trees to help beautify the Garfield Park Conservatory.

For the second year in a row, Thomas Costanza, a foreman at the conservatory, oversaw the scholars in a fun and relaxed environment and spoke about tree-planting practices and our individual impact on the environment. Mattie Wilson, Volunteer Program Coordinator, helped to arrange this event and was a saviour in helping scholars avoid dehydration by providing cold water and snacks. Thank YOU Mattie and Thomas! We hope to see you again next year!
