Gala 2006: 10th Anniversary
Scholarship Chicago celebrated its 10th Anniversary with a packed house last Thursday, November 2nd at the Hyatt Regency.
Among the 300 guests were Scholarship Chicago’s High 5 Partners, a group of 10 leading Chicago businesses and the night’s honorees. As High 5 Partners, the companies all committed 55,000 dollars to Scholarship Chicago over 5 years. Each of their donations effectively supports 5 students from the beginning of their senior year of high school to their college graduation, the full 5 years of Scholarship Chicago’s program.
As the honorees accepted their awards, many reaffirmed their commitment to Scholarship Chicago. Larry Martin, the representative from Nuveen Investments, minced no words.
"Scholarship Chicago is the best investment Nuveen has ever made," said Martin.
Along with the High 5 Partners, the night’s true stars were the students. More than 30 kids from Scholarship Chicago’s College Bound program were in attendance, and they often stole the show.
Stacey Kennedy, a freshman at the University of Chicago, was one example. Delivering the keynote address, Stacey received a standing ovation for a speech about her battle with the chronic disease Lupus and the inspiration she has drawn from Scholarship Chicago’s support.
When the night finally came to an end, the event’s success was evident. As guests lingered to speak with the students, it was clear that the next 10 years for Scholarship Chicago will be even more exciting than the last.
