Willard M. Dix, Director of College Transitioning Programming
Will brings over thirty years of professional experience in education to the Chicago Scholars team. He has taught at both high school, middle school and college levels, served as a dean of admissions at Amherst College, and been a college counselor at the University of Chicago Laboratory High School. His background in anthropology and theater has helped him hone his gift of expressing ideas and understanding people. Throughout his career, he has worked with students, parents and counselors of every background and has visited dozens of high schools and college campuses throughout the country.
Will has spoken many times at professional conferences and has been quoted frequently on college admissions related topics by the national media including the New York Times and Newsweek. He comments regularly on these issues through his blog College Counseling Culture. His blog can be found here: http://funnyhamlet.wordpress.com.
Will's main concern over the last ten years has been how to support low-income and first-generation students and their mentors in the quest for college.
Will developed and wrote a set of comprehensive handbooks for Chicago Scholars' students, mentors and parents to use as they make their way through the often complex college research and application process. He is currently director of College Transitioning Programming for Chicago Scholars.
