College Consultant Mentors
Overview:
The College Consultant Mentoring Program is one of the centerpieces of the Chicago Scholars Program and helps ensure that each scholar makes well-informed decisions about college.
College Consultant Mentors are assigned to a cohort of students during their senior year of high school in order to help them navigate the college application and admissions process. College Consultant Mentors help our scholars explore a broad array of university options and provides them with the necessary guidance, encouragement, and tools needed to utilize our programs effectively.
College Consultant Mentors make a formal one-year commitment to support the scholars through their senior year of high school. While the formal mentoring relationship ends upon high school commencement, many Consultant-Scholar relationships continue into and through the students' college years.
Roles:
- Provide socio-emotional and intellectual support during the college application process
- Offer advice to help scholars assess and select a "match" and "fit" university
- Assist scholars with financial aid paperwork and processes
- Encourage scholars to get the most out of the Chicago Scholars Program, including: Essay Writing Workshops, 1-on-1 Counseling, College Speed Dating, and the Annual Onsite Admissions Forum.
