Mentoring
The Chicago Scholars Program contains a three-tier mentoring model for every student.
College Consultant Mentors
In the first tier, Scholars are paired with individuals from the local business and non-profit community. These individuals serve as College Consultant mentors and assist our Scholars in selecting and applying to universities that are both a match (meet academic requirements) and fit (likely to lead to graduation). They also help Scholars discern the financial aid process and sort through their acceptance offers. The application to become a College Consultant Mentor is, HERE.
Peer Mentors
In the second tier, freshman and sophomore students are paired with a Peer Mentor from their college or a neighboring university. The Peer Mentors are upperclass students also enrolled in the Chicago Scholars Program. The paramount goal of this mentoring opportunity is to make the transition from high school to college more manageable for our younger Scholars. With this additional support, every Chicago Scholar is more apt to remain in school and graduate in four years.
Career Mentors
In the third tier, students who once benefited from the Peer Mentor program become peer mentors themselves. Concurrently, after declaring a major and retaining a Junior status, they connect with a community member who serves as a Career Mentor. Career Mentors offer industry-specific information, expertise, and contact points; they help our students enter the working world as young, confident professionals with a clearer vision of their future career trajectory.
